A Japanese mingei folk sculpture of Daikoku the most popular of the shichifukujin, Seven Lucky Gods. Daikoku, Shinto God of good fortune, is depicted dancing on top of his treasure bag and a rice bale. He wields his wish granting mallet. The statue darkly patinated from years of exposure to the smoke of the kitchen fires, where it was originally displayed on a kamidana ("god-shelf"). 19th century 6½” high x 4¾” wide x 3” deep
